Keychron Q1 OS Switch
Switch to Mac Mode: Toggle switch → Mac — Flip the physical toggle switch on the left side to Mac position. Activates Layer 0 (base) and Layer 1 (Fn) for macOS. In Mac base layer, the top row keys directly output media/system functions (Brightness, Mission Control, etc.).
Switch to Windows Mode: Toggle switch → Win — Flip the physical toggle switch on the left side to Win position. Activates Layer 2 (base) and Layer 3 (Fn) for Windows. In Windows base layer, the top row keys directly output F1-F12.
Keychron Q1 Lighting
Toggle Backlight: Fn + Tab — Turn the RGB backlight on or off. Also mapped to the knob press in Fn layer.
Next Lighting Effect: Fn + Q — Cycle forward through available RGB lighting effects.
Previous Lighting Effect: Fn + A — Cycle backward through available RGB lighting effects.
Increase Brightness: Fn + W — Increase the RGB backlight brightness.
Decrease Brightness: Fn + S — Decrease the RGB backlight brightness.
Increase Hue: Fn + E — Shift the RGB color hue forward (change backlight color).
Decrease Hue: Fn + D — Shift the RGB color hue backward (change backlight color).
Increase Saturation: Fn + R — Increase the RGB color saturation.
Decrease Saturation: Fn + F — Decrease the RGB color saturation.
Increase Effect Speed: Fn + T — Speed up the current lighting animation effect.
Decrease Effect Speed: Fn + G — Slow down the current lighting animation effect.
Keychron Q1 Fn Layer (Mac)
F1: Fn + Brightness Down — Output standard F1 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Brightness Down by default; Fn converts it to F1.
F2: Fn + Brightness Up — Output standard F2 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Brightness Up by default; Fn converts it to F2.
F3: Fn + Mission Control — Output standard F3 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Mission Control by default; Fn converts it to F3.
F4: Fn + Launchpad — Output standard F4 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Launchpad by default; Fn converts it to F4.
F5: Fn + KB Backlight Down — Output standard F5 key. In Mac base layer, this key is RGB Brightness Down by default; Fn converts it to F5.
F6: Fn + KB Backlight Up — Output standard F6 key. In Mac base layer, this key is RGB Brightness Up by default; Fn converts it to F6.
F7: Fn + Previous Track — Output standard F7 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Previous Track by default; Fn converts it to F7.
F8: Fn + Play/Pause — Output standard F8 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Play/Pause by default; Fn converts it to F8.
F9: Fn + Next Track — Output standard F9 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Next Track by default; Fn converts it to F9.
F10: Fn + Mute — Output standard F10 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Mute by default; Fn converts it to F10.
F11: Fn + Volume Down — Output standard F11 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Volume Down by default; Fn converts it to F11.
F12: Fn + Volume Up — Output standard F12 key. In Mac base layer, this key is Volume Up by default; Fn converts it to F12.
Keychron Q1 Fn Layer (Windows)
Decrease Screen Brightness: Fn + F1 — Decrease the display brightness. In Windows base layer, F1 is standard F1; Fn converts it to Brightness Down.
Increase Screen Brightness: Fn + F2 — Increase the display brightness. In Windows base layer, F2 is standard F2; Fn converts it to Brightness Up.
Task View: Fn + F3 — Open Task View (Win+Tab) to see all open windows and virtual desktops.
File Explorer: Fn + F4 — Open Windows File Explorer (Win+E).
Previous Track: Fn + F7 — Skip to previous track in media player.
Play / Pause: Fn + F8 — Toggle play/pause in media player.
Next Track: Fn + F9 — Skip to next track in media player.
Mute: Fn + F10 — Mute/unmute system audio.
Volume Down: Fn + F11 — Decrease system volume.
Volume Up: Fn + F12 — Increase system volume.
Keychron Q1 Knob (Encoder)
Adjust Volume: Rotate Knob — Rotate the knob to adjust system volume. Counterclockwise decreases volume, clockwise increases volume. Works in both Mac and Windows base layers.
Mute (Knob Press): Press Knob — Press the knob to mute/unmute system audio. This is the default knob press action in the base layer.
Adjust Backlight Brightness (Fn Layer): Fn + Rotate Knob — Hold Fn and rotate the knob to adjust RGB backlight brightness. Counterclockwise decreases, clockwise increases.
Toggle Backlight (Fn Layer): Fn + Press Knob — Hold Fn and press the knob to toggle the RGB backlight on/off.
Keychron Q1 Special
Factory Reset: Fn + J + Z (hold 4s) — Reset the keyboard to factory default settings. Hold all three keys for 4 seconds. The backlight will flash red quickly for 3 seconds to confirm. All custom VIA key mappings will be erased.
Toggle N-Key Rollover: Fn + N — Toggle N-Key Rollover (NKRO) on or off. NKRO allows all keys pressed simultaneously to be registered. Some systems may require 6KRO mode for compatibility.
Enter DFU Mode (Firmware Flash): Fn + Esc (or physical reset button) — Enter Device Firmware Update mode for flashing new firmware. Can also be triggered by pressing the physical reset button on the PCB. The keyboard will disconnect and appear as a DFU device.
VIA Key Remapping: Connect USB → open VIA — Connect the keyboard via USB cable and open VIA (usevia.app) to customize key mappings on all 4 layers. Changes are saved to the keyboard's onboard memory and persist across reconnects.
